Diversity Matters: Keep Up With Your Market
Sorry, but what you’re doing is just not enough. On social media, that is!!
These days diversity matters more than ever – again, we’re talking about social media here 🙂
A recent study posted by the Content Marketing Institute shows that the “Most Effective” content marketers actively used an average of 7 social media platforms, which is as high as it got in terms of averages. They were also willing to allocate the highest percentage of their budgets to content marketing… just sayin’ 😉
Keeping Up with Your Market
The reason diversification of social outlets matters so much is quite simple: there are so many different social networking sites out there!
That means your followers are not just on Facebook and Twitter anymore – they’re on YouTube, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc. etc. It’s not enough now just to post a few updates to your Facebook Fan Page and hope for the best.
People are looking for a more complete approach to social media engagement now more than ever since so many of these sites are tailor-made to fit different aspects of social engagement. There’s the quick fix, the video sharing, the quick fix for video sharing, the image sharing, the quick fix for image sharing on the go, the professional outlet, and on and on. Whatever your niche social need, there’s a place to fulfill it.
And not every following is the same. Some businesses appeal to a younger/hipper crowd, which is better for Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Some appeal to older, more focused crowds that engage on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Pinterest. Then there’s the Tumblr, Instagram, Vine demographic. The only way to know for sure is to test and test again.
Get Found!
And now Google weighs social media more than they ever have, so an active social presence is increasingly valuable. If you want to get found in search results, you’ll have to put in the time on social media.
So get out there and get on ALL the social media outlets available to you, and start posting and cross-posting to engage your following fully on every one of them. There’s no substitute, and no looking back!!
