So… What Is Plaxo?
I don’t know what it is with companies wanting to name themselves with made-up words that tell you nothing about what they do – even if you’ve heard of Plaxo, there’s a good chance you still don’t actually know what it does.
So, building on the last post on what Orkut is and how it applies to your SMM (if at all) – here’s another small-time site to consider.
Not Exactly Social Media
Okay, so it’s isn’t really “social media” like you’re thinking of it – you don’t use it to post and like and follow and network like you would Twitter or Facebook. It’s not a content marketing tool, not even an SMM tool, really. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t important.
What’s useful social media tools about Plaxo is that it helps you organize your contacts, and since you TALK to your contacts, that makes Plaxo SOCIAL!! Get it?!
Anyway, Plaxo is a way to keep your infinite list of contacts organized via the Cloud automatically. If you’ve ever had the AWFUL experience of trying to import contacts to your iPhone and got 5000 useless email addresses cluttering your Contacts, you know there’s seemingly no easy way to streamline contacts across devices.
You can import from basically every major contact provider, from Gmail to Yahoo to even Facebook (told you this was social!!) – plus you can import from spreadsheets if you have custom contact lists.
This is a really nice way to keep organized if you do a lot of email blasting or have multiple accounts and devices to keep straight, as you can have these updated automatically when they’re changed, too. (Want to do that for all your social campaigns? Check out the PuTTin’ OuT social media automation software!)
Pretty straightforward. Plaxo is a potentially helpful tool with free and paid versions depending on your level of need. And if you’ve got as much going on ALL THE TIME as I do and want to help yourself stay sane – organizational tools are a great thing!!!
