4 Ways to Promote on Twitter
So you’re ready for the whole “Twitter” thing, but don’t know how to use it for marketing. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with 4 quick ways to promote your brand on the internet’s favorite social media outlet!
1: Promotion Mindset
First, let’s clarify something – I’m talking about promotion here. This is a simple mentality switch that most people who are unsuccessful at marketing on Twitter miss.
For everything you post, remember that you are always PROMOTING – your brand, a product, an idea, a connection, your BRAND, etc. Your Twitter feed is an extension of your company and brand, and if all you’re doing is re-tweeting inspirational quotes, you aren’t promoting.
Check out some of the good (and bad) examples I’m talking about with some first Tweets from big brands. If nothing else, you’ll have a laugh 😉
2: Advertise the New
Got a new product, service, blog post, or webpage? Promote it! It’s that simple. Just be sure that advertising yourself isn’t the only thing your followers see of you. Be personable, interesting, and fun!
The companies that get unfollowed fastest are the ones their followers get tired of. No one likes to be marketed to, so remember to keep your promotional posts engaging for your specific followers, not just spamming links.
3: Contests
One thing Twitter is great about is promoting repeat business – a vastly underrated aspect of building a business.
A great way to do that is by running Twitter contest. This does several things:
- Increases engagement with existing followers
- Promotes viral sharing when followers tell their friends about it
- Increases brand exposure
- Keeps followers interested in your brand
I think we all could use more of all of that! So come up with a fun contest that’s relevant to your market and brand, and get people to enter and participate on Twitter.
4: Retweet
This is a simple, fun one you can do in literally less than a second.
If you find a tweet you like from a big-time brand or personality, retweet it. This doesn’t necessarily advertise for you directly, but it can help increase exposure of your Twitter branding and get people to notice you more.
